Aside from Lancia, yes, I would agree with HAL that Jaguar is in the second position. I am a bit biased because, I own a 1972 Jaguar XJ6 4.2litre. :)

At the risk of sounding like a Ford fanboi, I choose Ford for greatest cars:

any of the GT500's
Mach 1
GT40
GT
Mustang

However, I a firm believer that ALL CARS ARE CREATED EQUALLY SHITTY!

I had considered ford, I also love the Cortina, the Focus RS the Sierra Cosworth. But that list doesn't equal the number of cars from Jaguar.

Model T? I know it wasn't a great car for quality or comfort, but it was the beginning of the assembly line and affordable cars for the common man. Also have to throw in the early Explorer and Taurus. Both of those cars achieved great success and were class leaders for a number of years.

I understand there are many different takes on what's considered great, so I'll just go with mine.

Toyota. In no specific order:
- Supra. Iconic sports car like no other. Unique styling, great performance, great price when they were new!
- Cressida. One of the first affordable semi-luxury cars that didn't suck. It had the naturally aspirated Supra engine! This is the car that eventually started Lexus.
- Celica. Cool little car that wasn't boring, wasn't fast, but it didn't break the bank.
- Camry. Rock solid, no frills, but no problems either. They've always been one of the best grocery-getters ever made. I'm not so sure about the 2012, though.
- Tacoma. I'm not a truck person, but you've got to admit that the Taco is delicious!

So Toyota was able to make a considerable impact in the sports car, coupe, pickup truck, economy sedan, and luxury sedan markets.

Has any other brand done this? The only other company I could kind of argue for is Ford, except they didn't really make sports cars; they made muscle cars. I also don't really think their quality is up to par.

Also, I don't think Mazda is the greatest, but there's something to be said about the Mazda MX-5/Miata. Best selling sports car of all time. That deserves a mention.

I think you never heard of the first and last T-Bird and the GT-40...it's ok since you are aligned with Toyota. :)

I will say when my dad had to find a pickup truck to tow his open fisherman 2x feet, the american trucks that could either where too much truck or insane money. He originally started with a Toyota Tundra, then went to a newer F150 Sport Crew, then a 1996 Bronco, Eddie Bauer Edition. :)

Thunderbird... Meh. It's okay.

GT-40? Definitely noted. But I consider it more of an exotic. I wouldn't say it's had that much of a direct impact on most people who drive cars. That being said, the GT-40 was just plain awesome.

Nothing wrong with American trucks. In fact, there's many things right with them. I mentioned the Tacoma mainly because it really is a great truck and I wanted to demonstrate Toyota's excellence in various areas.

I think the voters got it right. Ford. They've certainly been around awhile which has it's advantages, but with the iconic vehicles that are tied to them they take the crown. I think Mercedes is in the discussion as well, as they have been at the forefront of automotive innovation and design for practically their whole history.

No idea how anyone could say Jaguar. I can't think of a single great Jaguar off the top of my head. What sort of innovation or market altering influence has Jaguar ever done? If all a car does is look nice, then it isn't a car, it's piece of art. Looks can be a factor, but they can't be the only factor.

That is because you picked a manufacturer and pretty much listed every car they made that was even halfway decent. If we all did that we would essentially have a huge thread of every half decent car ever made, and there are tons of them. Elfear's post is a perfect example, and I would argue that in my definition of greatness, his list makes more sense than yours.

We all get it man, you are a proud Brit, that's a good thing to love your country. Hearing it over and over again in thinly veiled threads gets a little old. Yes, I could just as easily avoid your threads (actual posts would be impossible since you have a shotgun posting style) and be on my way, but it does kind of bug me when you drag cars into it, because I love cars.

I personally would never be able to say whether or not a car is great unless I had owned one. Yeah, cars can look great in numbers, in sheetmetal, on the track, but true greatness for me is a formula that involves those things as well as everyday livability.

So maybe you are getting so few responses with lists of cars because so few are taking this thread seriously?
