I just wondered if it mattered which brands of soap, wax, etc. I used to wash my car. Which brands work best, in your opinion. One of my big problems is water spots. Any thoughts?

<< Nu Finish >>

Nu Finish is great as long as you are not concerned with the shiniest possible finish. Nu Finish is very esy to apply and holds up really well to repeated washing. Most folks would agree that Zaino Brothers makes the best products for a killer shine, but they are quite costly.

Zaino car wash and polishing system. Makes the car SHINE (even better than when I used Meguiar's). I do use Meguiar's Tire Shine stuff though.

wash your car? why would you do that? :D

i rarely wash my car, and if i do, i just use some dishwashing detergent from the kitchen. it seems to work just fine.

as far as wax, i wouldn't know. i have never waxed my car.

Dishwashing detergent is not safe for regular car-washing. It is excessively harsh and will eventually damage paint. Use dedicated car-wash solution (or just do what I do and go to a self-service car wash).

Wax that car, bro! A coat of wax every 4-6 months is the difference between an 8 year old car that still looks like new and an 8 year old car that looks more like 12.

I like the Meguier's cleaner wax. Nice and easy to remove by hand. I tried some Meguier's swirl remover and put some "Hi-Tech Yellow" wax on top. That car hadn't been waxed in 3-4 years and the swirl remover got rid of the oxidation and Chicago acid rain residue. It really shines but it took a lot of time to buff off the products, even with my orbital buffer.
