Which Canon camera is better?

In terms of last generation, the 600 is equivalent to the 450. I would wait a little bit. The 550s should be going on clearance/sale really soon. I think dell had them for ~250 a few weeks ago.
 
Yeah, the 550 has a larger CCD (1/1.8" vs 1/2.5")

it seems that a number of newer models have the 1/2.5" CCD replacing the 1/1.8" CCD of the previous generation. it's odd

did you read it wrong? sd600 = 2.5" sd550 = 1.8"
