There are a lot of cable modems out there.. Does it matter which one to get (assuming it's compatible with Cox@Home, of course)? Or are there performance differences?

Please post information about your own Cable Modem, and if possible mention how much you like/dislike it.

Thanks!

why would you buy one?

i'd assume you'd just use the one that comes with the service, no?

Yeah, just get one with the service...you shouldn't have to go and buy your own. If you do you are with the wrong service dude ;)

If you use your own cable mode, you get a monthly discount of $10 !
So if you plan on having cable modem service for over a year, it's worth investing in your own cable modem.

For example, it's $45/mo with THEIR (rented) cable mode, or $35/mo with MY OWN cable modem. I could also buy it from the provides, but they charge $200 for it (read "too expensive").

I have the 3com "Sharkfin" and I have not had any problems with it. Optimum online lets you pick among a couple of modems, and the lest problems have occurred with the sharkfins so if they are available in your neighborhood, or if there is another 3com modem I would go with that, as spending a little extra for a better brand will likely save you form some hassles later on.
