Which cable modem should I buy and where?

I am moving into an area that has @home cable modem service. From what I have found out from reading around, all I need is a DOCSIS compliant modem. Does anyone have any recommendations on where I can get a good price on a modem. I noticed on the dlink.com website that d-link is putting out a new cable modem that I imagine will be fairly cheap. Any help/recommendations would be helpful.
 
250$ for a cable modem, or 8$ a month to rent <in my @home area at least> considering if it ever breaks, or needs immediate support, or the fact that more and better bandwith may be out a year or two from now I personally dont see them as economical.
