Which Cable\DSL Router to Get?

I'm looking for an inexpensive router for my cable modem, I'm tired of leaving my comptuer on all night to give access to the two other computers in the house. does the router also take the place of the cable modem itself? Is there even such a combo device?

Also, which brands do you recommend? I'm looking to keep it below $75.

There are three computers on the network.

Thanks.

Check this link out courtesy of JackMDS. The router does not take the place of the cable modem. You put the router in between the connection from the cable modem to your computer. The popular brands of routers right now are SMC, Linksys, and Netgear. Some people prefer one over the other. I have the SMC Barricade and it works great. It has a print server and a dial-up modem backup, just in case your cable line goes down. The Linksys and the Netgear don't have this. But other than those 2 things, they're basically the same. Some routers have rebates that come with them, and they're prices have been dropping. Just do a search and you should be able to get something within your price range. Hope this helps.

There are no significant differences between most of the Entry level Cable/DSL Routers.

Conventional Wisdom claims: The Routing Trinity.

1. Netgear RT314
2. Barricade 7004ABR
3. Linksys BEFSR41

Some Routers have an additional Printer Server, and DialUp Modem input for backup.

I would choose the one that has the features that fit the way you use the
Internet (and may be it is on sale).
