Which C2D should I get?

The good news is that I just sold my P4 3.0 Prescott for a very good price. The bad news is that the buyer wants it on Monday or Tuesday. I thus have very little time to choose a new computer.

I am not a gamer. My piorities in no particular order of importance are:

Speed: I do not need fast speeds but I enjoy a fast computer.
Heat: My P4 generated a lot of heat. I want something that runs cooler.
Stability: I like reliable computers but do not mind spending time to overclock it.
Budget: budget is flexible but I do not like to waste money needlessly

Based on the above which CPU should I get? If this has already been covered a million times, a link to pertinent posts would be appreciated.

Hi Denis,

Intel is dropping CPU prices on July 22:

Cheap and efficient dual cores:

Best mainstream CPU:

AMD more power efficient i.e. cooler:

The 6600 seems to be the "sweet spot", and, in about 2 weeks, will be even less expensive:

65 watts for all that speed. That is pretty impressive....

The 65W AMD X2 is efficient, cheap....

However, looks like 6600 C2D with a P35 chipset mobo is the way to go....at least IMO...
