Runnin Win2k, SP3.
Should I continue using the VIA drivers, or use the Microsoft ones?
On the driver download page, it says to use if I have ATA100 drives and without SP1, or if I have ATA133 drives.
Well none of my drives are ATA133, so should I switch back?

viaide.sys is only driver shown for the bus master...

Would using the wrong driver cause cd burning problems?

Using the wrong bus master drivers can cause all kind of problems. Just install the latest 4 in 1 drivers and you will be all set.

I do have the Hyperion 4-in-1 drivers installed.
If I do a driver update, Windows tells me that the Microsoft Via Bus Master IDE driver is a better solution.. of course this is coming from MS too..
What drivers should be loaded to the Bus Master? Just the viaide.sys, or should there be more?

BTW, I am having problems burning CDs... CDRWIN gives me an ASPI timeout error, and Fireburner gives me several different ones, the latter being
Thread2: Sense Error: UNIT_ATTENTION (POWER ON, RESET OR BUS DEVICE RESET OCURRED) (0x06 0x29 0x00)

Could that be caused by the wrong Bus Master drivers being installed?

Would it be safe to switch back to the MS Via driver?

I, myself, prefer the VIA drivers over the Microsoft ones. The VIA ones will always have the best compatibility, simply because they can update them much faster and better than Microsoft can. As for the CD burning problem, I don't know. Perhaps reinstalling Windows may do the trick? Other than that, I'm not too much up on ASPI, etc., so I can't help you there :(

could ya do somethin for me?
Check the Driver Details for your Bus Master IDE Controller, and tell me what drivers are loaded there.
I only have viaide.sys
a buddy of mine, with an Intel system, has an ?ide.sys, aspi.sys, and something else.
I may just need to re-install the Via drivers.. maybe I'll try that first, before going back to the MS ones..

My listing (on Win98 SE) shows vatapi.vxd and vmm32.vxd, using the next-to-latest 4-in-1s (not the new Hyperion ones). It may show up different on other OSes, but that's what is on my system (VIA KT266a)

Possibly it could, i remember having the 4n1 installed no problems, did a benchmark test that was new and it was posted in this forum with everyone posting results. Some people with VIA were getting low performance out of their HDD, limited to 33 MB/s on them. Someone recommened installing a program from VIA affliate site, and though it boosted my perforamce on my HDD, it stopped me from burining. It's a program that loaded up in the systray, when I unistalled it, I was back to burning...

This is just a heads up though.

do you happen to remember what the filename was?
Did it have anything to do with the Raid Performance Patch?

If I remember right, IDE Bus Mastering... had nothing to do with RAID for me.
