I'd like to ask guys who own a BT OBDII tool which one they have, how they like it, and if they can also clear the codes with it (not just scan, but also clear a CEL)?

I don't mind if someone else chimes in about what they have heard or read about different models. But, I'm really interested in hearing from people who own them. Thanks in advance for any helpful or humorous replies.

Do a search on the ELM327. Been a few threads on it recently. Several of us have them with pretty much rave reviews all around.

Thanks. I had done some checking before I created this thread and I was looking at some of the ELM327's before I created this thread. The thing is, there are a LOT of different manufacturers and different ELM327's. So, I'm guessing that it is kinda like using an Nvidia or ATI GPU and your own circuit board. So, I figured that I'd ask first.

To add to the confusion is the fact that the prices range from $13 to $60. With most being either $15 or $30. Some specifically state that you can clear codes while others simply say that they are a scanner. I also have read here where one version will turn itself off (if you leave it plugged in all the time) while an earlier version won't turn itself off.

Might I ask what brand you have and how happy you are with it?

Picked up one from Amazon last year (look for Soliport ELM 327). So far, have used it in my '05 Titan, '02 BMW 330i and a friends Hyundai XG350 (not sure what year).

Used it with the free version of Torque on my HTC One. Didn't bother with the software that came with it.

Read & cleared codes, turned on data logging for shits n giggles. Not sure if it turns itself off or not. I've never left it plugged in.

Thanks guys. I just bought an ELM327 from Newegg for $13.59 shipped. It is made by 'DBPower' and had 4 out of 5 eggs from 15 reviews. The thing I was wondering about is it that it's listed as a CY-B03 and I did see some CY-B05 + CY-B06 versions there. So, I was thinking that this may be an older version. But, this one is certainly a bit more compact than the others, so I'd be more inclined to leaving it in place without it posing an issue. We'll see how it works out.
