Which BSD?

Just installed a HD caddy system on my puter so my dual boot days are numbered.
I'll have three drives. W2K, Gentoo, and I'm looking for suggestions on a BSD flavor.
What are the diifferences between OpenBSD and FreeBSD?

Although I've not used either, I've read a bit about both, and have FreeBSD 4.5 on a few CDs just tempting me to install it in VMWare.

Anyway, other people on this board use FreeBSD as a desktop system, and it is very full featured. OpenBSD claims to be more secure, and also it doesn't seem to have nearly as many programs in a default installation. I have no idea what NetBSD is all about, though, but it seems to run on nearly everything (maybe even your toaster). 😉

A famous *nix nerd on this very forum was once heard commenting;

"FreeBSD tries to be linux, openBSD tries to be good"
or something to that effect 😉

FreeBSD's goal is to be the best all around free unix
OpenBSD's goal is to be the most secure
NetBSD's goal is to be the most portable

I want to try NetBSD. Supposedly if you want to hack around with a kernel or other similar stuff NetBSD is the place to try it.

The biggest reason I run FreeBSD is because of the fact that I can download and burn an *.iso. I'm too lazy to do an FTP install (and I don't use a floppy on my main box), but I should try it on an old box I've got up and running. I also like FreeBSD's documentation, it's rather thorough...

If you're referring to the doc's, yeah. The OpenBSD FAQ's are nice, and so is the ability to search man pages...

Like I said, I really need to get an OpenBSD box up...
