It's been a good long while since I've purchased a new hard drive. When I bought my last one 250 gigs was huge and Maxtor, WD, and Seagate were the 'big three' so to speak. My current drive is a maxtor 250 gig IDE drive, which has done me well for several years. I rebuilt my system and now am looking for a sata drive. To tell you how old this drive is when I first bought it, the general consenus in the computing world was not to go with the sata drives because the connectors broke too easily and there wasn't enough speed increase to warrent the hassle.
Now, there's a lot more brands of drives and Maxtor is no longer a good one. So, I'm wondering which ones are? Seagate and WD are still good from what I've heard. I'm not sure about Samsung and Hitachi, though. Reviews look decent, but those generally don't mean much.
