I've always picked up the cheapest and never had a single problem. I've had cd writers since the very first 2x burners and never had an issue, but it seems AT'ers always do.

Is there something you guys are doing that causes so many coasters? I'd say that I have maybe 1 coaster per 100 CD's or so, maybe just good luck?

You mean those large round objects that store 700MB of data, are incredibly vulnerable to physical damage and are a pain in the ass to write and rewrite? Those were the days.

On a related note, what brand of floppy disk do you use?

I use DVD-R's a lot more than CD-R's. Most of my el cheapo Wal-Mart discs have turned out fine.

Same here. I've gotten a couple of the TY 100 spindles of DVD-R's from zipzoomfly...but for CD-R's, i use them so sparingly i always buy Fuji TY's.

You could have gotten a bad batch, but coasters are frequently a result of a software problem, or less often a burner incompatibility (and any burner that has compatibility issues with certain media is a POS in my book).

For anything worth archiving, I only use Japanese-made media (Taiyo seems to be the most commonly available), and I don't burn over its rated speed.

I've got a spindle of 100 Verbatim DVD-Rs and CD-RWs. No coasters yet, about a quarter of the way through 'em.

I'll use my lightscribe if I want to do something fancy (ie: burn a "backup" of a DVD and make it look real), but beyond the occasional Linux distro, I have almost no use for them.

heh yea we are long past the bad old days where burners were picky as hell. that was back when disks were a buck or more..and u paid for mistake big time heh. not much buffer and that kinda stop/start protection! multitask might cost u a buck:p

meh, shove it :)

I have two CDs by the same artist that would fit onto one disk, so what's the big deal?

Where I used to work, we always used the OfficeDepot branded CD-Rs. We also used their DVDs too.

I don't recall having any problems with them.

I still have about 50 of the 100 disk spindle of Sonys I bought like 3 years ago ... the only time I ever use them is software install backups.

Taiyo Yuden FTW!

Exactly. Accept no substitutes.

These are what I use for DVD's.

Whatever is cheapest; the last time I bought CD-Rs was over 2 years ago. I still have ~8 TDK CD-Rs from that pack of 50. I used to use them more to make mixes to play in my car, but now that I'm at school, I have everything on my computer or MP3 player.

I bought like 200 Maxell CD-Rs a few years ago for practically nothing. That's about how much they are worth too because almost all of them have read errors. Pieces of crap.
