Which brand new car can I buy for 11,500 USD?

I dunno....a Kia or something? 😛

I personally would spend the money on a used car that was actually somewhat nice... (Assuming I would ever blow over $10k on a car anyway...that's waaaaaay in the future. 😉 )

is that 11,5 counting the money you'll need for insurance and gas costs? Thing about any used car is maintenence issues you run into with them. YOu can get a low end hyundia or kia for under 11k with a 10yr warranty - not sure if you'd go for that though. Personally, i'd grab the newest used Civic I could get with that much money.

you could get a niceish porsche 944 for that much 🙂 🙂

i guess we should ask what the OP wants out of the car -- something fun to drive, or something that might last him for a while. Even still, i doubt i'd choose the porsche over just about anything else.

Well, I'm hoping to buy a used Toyota Yaris with that. Just wanted to know what can be grabbed in the US with that figure [and then start to cry...🙁]

WTF is a YARIS?!!! just googled it, looks like a scary hatchback echo. Why in the hell would you want to drive that thing?! :Q

Why would you guys in the US want to drive SUVs?

A. cause in the US: the bigger the car, the better(?)

B. gas prices are not an issue(?)

C. you got the dough(?)

The yaris is easy to maintain and insure; it is very reliable - these sell in an instant where I live...

Also, it has a tiny 1.0 litre engine. yeah, I know you're gonna laugh, but Toyota packet it with the latest technology, thus enabling it to bring no less than 68bhp to the table. keep in mind that it's a 1.0L...(!)

So it is VERY economic on fuel too... (17Km/L when stressed!)

I don't think anyone said anything about SUV's, lol...

Where do you live anyway? I've never heard of the "Yaris" myself either.

I've seen way too many (power and fuel hungry) SUVs in my visit to the US.

'Yaris' is very popular outside the US - mainly in Europe.

come up with a extra 1k bucks and get a scion xa. thats my pick right now.

or you can get a nissan sentra or toyota echo brand new.

I've got an SUV that does 27/mpg on the highway. If you get the Ford Escape Hybrid, supposedly you get 46mpg in the city. So SUV's can be economical, if you buy the right one.

$11.5k in cash? You should be able to haggle your way into a $15,000 car.

IIRC, the SUV phenom all started with the "Joneses".. 🙂

I live in the US and I'm all for the Yaris, if only I could get one... I love my 00' Echo and only wish it were a hatchback for convenience reasons. Gotta love the gas mileage, easy handling, and center-mounted instrument display. I got my 00' Echo coupe for $6,000 back in 2003. 60K on it but still does 36mpg average. All I've had to do for it so far is get my exhaust system patched up after it broke between the cat. converter and the muffler due to corrosion from road salt.

it IS a hatchback echo. it is also the same car that we see here in the states not just as the echo, but as the Scion xA and xB, as well.

buy a scion xA, it's basically the same car.

your echo will go a lot farther than 60K, though, if you give it the chance.

Hyundai Elantra GLS automatic should run about $10,480 out the door if you find a clearance 2004 model.
