Curious. Im looking at buying a new laptop in a few days here. Ive got it narrowed down to a Dell or HP. Similar specs and similar price, not sure which one to go with. I've owned a sony and they are nice, but generally seem more expensive.

IBM if you can afford it. Otherwise if cost is your main concern, Dell is usually decent enough.

I'd also check out Asus. Whatever you get, make sure you get the installation media.

Im personally looking for around $1,000 with solid performance and a nice display. Ive never owned a Dell laptop though so not sure on the quality of their displays etc...

1) Wrong forum

2) You should specify laptop in your thread title.

3) Avoid Sony VAIO's.

4) Dell offers the best bang for your buck with their frequent sales, coupons and free shipping offers.

Here's a hot deal on a laptop but it recently expired. The Dell E1505 is usually on sale for around $699.

5) I would also consider the HP Pavilion DV6000T.

6) If you can increase your budget to $1500 I would consider the highly rated Lenovo ThinkPad T60 or an Asus model.

For me, it is all about my latest experiences with clients and the customer service they get. HP over Dell for customer service lately.
I recieved 3 replacement motherboards for 2.5 year old machines. It was a painless experience.

Dell laptops are kinda flimsy. I've had my Inspiron 9300 for around 2 years and the hinges already suck. HP laptops are priced pretty competitively, fairly sturdy, in their customer service is top notch. Of course, if cost wasn't an object, IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads all the way!

Don't like any of the mans for desktops, but I'm typing on a DellM90 and it's golden.

I chose Dell... I've had good luck with them over the years.

We use 'em at work with very few issues.

I also just bought a Dell desktop since I couldn't build one for as cheap as I could buy a Dell.

For higher end desktops though, I'd still build my own.
