I am preparing to learn W2k server as an enhancement for my future business...which book should I buy to; 1)properly and comprehensively teach me the fundamentals of W2k server, and; 2)prepare me for passing the MS W2k server exam, should I choose to do so?

any input is appreciated.

There are MCP/MCSE course books; I can't vouch for the quality of any of them, however.

But I *would* recommend you go to your nearest book store and purchase a copy of the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit (it's important to get the Server Resource Kit and not the Professional one, it has more books and includes the all-important server stuff).

It's quite expensive (maybe 160 quid or more), it contains six (IIRC) books, and a CD of useful goodies, but is well worth it.

It _isn't_ geared towards the MCP/MCSE exam, and that is certainly something to be aware of, but it is a comprehensive guide to most aspects of Windows 2000.

I would stay away from the Certification books as they usually just convolute any issue you're trying to research with unnecessary info.

Try the "In a Nutshell" books by O'Reilly. Or you may find one that's better. Books-a-Million and Barnes & Noble have the best selections. You'll want a book that's easily layed out that you can turn to what you need when you need it. Don't worry about it being too big; the important thing is you won't be reading this thing cover-to-cover most likely. Eventually yes, but in the beginning you'll need to spotcheck stuff like TCP/IP and group ownership.
