Which boinc project to run?

It's been a while since I have visited the dc section. In the past I was pretty involved in F@H (still at #46). Over the years I have had to scale back my participation due to time constraints and no longer being able to keep the folding farm.
Recently I moved my last play computer from 64bit ubuntu to 32bit to get my stupid wireless card to work correctly.

Since F@H won't let me run the SMP client (Phenom x3 with the 4th core unlocked) I am in need of some direction on what boinc project to run.

The weather is starting to turn so I'll be able to keep my ubuntu machine running 24/7 now without overheating.

You could possibly do the TAS project of the month. Currently Orbit@Home. Its fun to be able to compare your progress with others.

OTOH: Orbit does not have any WUs just now ...
QuantumFireAlpha is a possibility, Rosetta@home, WorldCommunityGrid are fun too ...
In WCG you can choose between projects or run them all ...
QFA is reasonably new and the TeAm needs support ...
Rosetta is one of the main projects of the TeAm and somewhat similar to F@H.

BTW: welcome back to the crunching. I hope your daughter is well and liveley ... I remember that F@H race ... was it two or three years ago?

Queued up Orbit...if i get a WU, so be it.
Have Rosetta running right now. Was a bit of a wakeup to see my cpu temp skyrocket top 74*C.
Quickly shutdown and did a case cleaning (lots of dust bunnies living in the heatsink fins) along with some new thermal paste and running at a somewhat cool 55*C under full load.

Daughter is doing well. She is in the terrible two's right now (3 in Jan). My wife and I just sit there and laugh sometimes at the things that come out of her mouth, and other times pull our hair out.

On a side note.......anyone know of the easiest way to install a 64bit linux client on top of my already existing 32bit ubuntu system so I can run the SMP F@H client for the December race?
VM or just dual boot? I'd rather avoid dual boot if possible since I use the machine to watch movies on the weekend.

EDIT: Anyone know of a good excuse/logic to use to convince my wife that a PS3 would be a good investment in the name of science? Would be nice for the holiday race.

Your best bet, would be a VM of a 64-bit client (since your hardware supports 64-bit virtualization). I'm not sure if there's any limitations with a 64-bit VM running on a 32-bit system (I've always used 64-bit OS's), but it's worth a shot, unless you feel the need to reinstall your OS to a 64-bit version.

Do you have BlueRay reader? If not that is one reason. A good BD-reader is approx 2000 SEK, you add approx 500 SEK - 800 SEK and you have a PlayStation3. And you can play games - do sports indoor - entertain you daughter. Now it all depends on the attitude of your wife towards games and how much the daughter should play.

The whole argument is based on the premise that you have a HD-capable TV ... if you don't, then BD is a waste ...

LoL. I had a similar argument some years ago ... it did not take long to persuade her ... now she uses it at least 6 hours a week.

Thanks for the info biodoc. Ran rosetta to about 20,000 points and just a few hours ago got the windows smp client running via wine. Wanted to make sure I could figure it out prior to the f@h holiday race.
