which BMWs use GM transmissions?

Probable easier to find out what Trans GM supplied to them then look what trans each BMW has. Go backwards from the way you are going

The 5-speed automatic RWD transmission used in the Cadillac CTS came out before the Cadillac CTS was actually ready, so it was sold to BMW for a few years for use in the 3-series and 5-series.

GM has supplied automatics to a number of European companies. Heck, Jaguar continued to use GM transmissions even after Ford purchased Jaguar. IIRC Mercedes has used GM transmissions too. It's worth remembering that one of GM's greatest strengths is that they are able to design exceptional transmissions.

Not sure which BMW's use the GM automatics though.

However, Ford transmissions are a poor design.

I would be more inclined to say Chrysler/Dodge transmissions are of poor design.
