Just a quick question.
3 weeks ago at Microcenter I bought:
A785GE Socket AM2+ 785G mATX Motherboard
Athlon II X4 635 2.9GHz
for around $118 after taxes

Now they have:
Biostar TA790GXBE Socket AM2+ 790GX ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz Boxed Processor
for around $130

Since i haven't built my CPU yet, I can return these.

Which motherboard is better?
- The TA 790 has worse integrated graphics (Radeon 3300 vs 4200) but has 4 ram slots and seems to have more features. I think the 785G is newer though.
- i Don't think I will be using the integrated card though since I ust got a GT240.
- The TA790 also has a 3yr warranty while I think the A785 has just 1 yr.

Should be an easy decision I guess but I want to know what you guys think.
Also, is the newer Athlon X4 definitely better? (sometimes newer chips have weird things like they can't OC as much etc)

Don't those boards use DDR3 ?
I scavenge my old setup so I went with Asus M4A785-M and it cost me like 30 bucks or something after the discount. Using my DDR2 and it's running fantastic

I originally wanted the X2 555 BE but ended up getting the X4 640.

Total cost was like 130ish including tax.
upgraded from a X2 3600+

Well, the 790 is AMD's highest-end chipset, so it better have the most features.

I suppose the 3 year warranty on the TA790 would be nice, since it's not much more.

The newer Athlon X4 should have the latest stepping, which should be better for OCing, though both the 635 and 640 are C3 anyways.

Since they're AM2+, they use DDR2.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I originally was going to go with the X2 555BE also but ended up with the X4 640 and the TA790GXBE. After reading some reviews, it seems that the HD3300 may not be worse - it is confusing though.

The TA790 being a full ATX mobo made it an easier decision as well since I have a fairly roomy case (Antec 300).

Looking forward to my first build since my old AMD64 3200+! Finally get to try out Win7 also.
