Just came back from my first surfing session in San Diego :) Damn it was fun!

Now which is the best beach to surf in LA where I can find surfboards for rentals easily/cheap and where the waves are friendly to n00bs?

EDIT: Stress -> What about surfboard rentals?

Malibu? San Onofre? I really have no idea how close either of those places are to LA, but they're supposed to be beginner friendly.

Check out this months' Los Angeles Magazine.

It has a special on the 25 best beaches in LA county. Great article.

Venice, Malibu and Santa Monica are all fairly friendly to beginning surfers.
Huntington is always good, but stay away from the pier area. Generally speaking, the surfers are a bit hostile to newbs.
I have always thought the southern beaches the best; San Onofre, Surf Beach and San Clemente. Clean water, nice people and great waves.

I always loved the view just inside the fenceline at Camp Pendleton where the ladies would come and get close with nature. The things we can see from the air as we flew overhead and I had the best view in the bird. San Onofre State Park is a cool place.

I think it was in Pacific beach that I went..

Out of tens of attempts.. I think I only managed to stand up once or twice. But it was well worth the tries :)
