The original.

that sucks compared to the new one...in terms of visual quality

You are also talking 1978 VS 200X......Thats a huge change in visual quality, I loved the old series when they were outside the ship, and you could see the strings that held them up, now thats great tv!

I'd just start from the mini series which should be disc1. It is 3 hours long so do have plenty of free time.

Ok, so I had to rent the mini series since no BlockBuster seemed to carry Season 1 Disc One.
So, Now do I simply rent Season 1 Disc two?

I'd assume that blockbuster simply labelled disk 1 as the miniseries. you should be safe moving on to disk 2.

Nope. But, that is what folks are suggesting here in the thread, but the different names make me think these are differnt episodes:

Battlestar Galactica: The Miniseries(2003) Enhanced Widescreen Letterbox DVD Rated: NR Release Date: 12/28/2004

Battlestar Galactica: Season One - Disc 1(2005) Enhanced Widescreen Letterbox, Color DVD Rated: NR Release Date: 09/20/2005

Looks liek two differnt shows. I called BB, and they had no idea.

Disc 1 of the Season One set is the miniseries. The miniseries was released earlier on DVD, but they went ahead and made it Disc 1 of the Season One set anyways.
