It's either a rev 1.2 or 1.3 Can't remember.

I'm currently running a 2100+ tbred at 2.3 @166 bus speed (have crappy PC2700)

Anyway, I'd like to go ahead and up it to a Barton and some good ram. Ram isn't a problem, I've dug up plenty good leads on what to get there. CPU is what I'm not sure about.

I'm seeing where people are running "mobile" bartons?? Is that right? Can I run a mobile barton in this mobo?

I know NewEgg has lotsa CPUs and I like buying from them. If anyone knows a good model # CPU they have could you recommend for me?

Thanks

p.s. I'm souping this thing up for the wife. When I get done with it, I'm going to be building an A64-3200+ machine for me. (equiped with either the new ATI card or the GF-6800).

Yes, you can run a mobile XP on that board easily. This is the mobile Barton that I'm partial to (mine runs at 2.5ghz, no sweat): mobile Barton 2600, or you can save yourself $8 and get this one: mobile Barton 2500. I would go for the Mushkin Level I PC3500, since the chip will have no problems making it past 200mhz (assuming your board can keep up with it;)). Any good, low-latency PC3200 will be fine, though.

Save $8?? BAH! Never! :D

Thanks man, I'll order that 2600+ immediately.

I'll post what I get it running at once it comes in and I get it running.

OH, I wanted to ask. Is that CPU UNLOCKED?? I'd hate to not be able to change the Multiplier. :(

Cool. I just ordered 2 of those 2600+ and another A7N8X (A7N8X-E DELUXE). I rationalized and instead of spending $500 for a mobo and CPU to get A64, I am just going to build 2 like systems.

I figure if I can overclock the piss out of these CPU's, it's WAY more bang for the buck than an A64 3200+ I went ahead and got the wife a 9800Pro too. She'll be happy with that. :)

In fact, I just blew a whole wad of cash at NewEgg. $2112.26 total. :Q

I got a Lot more than just a couple of CPU's mobo's and video card though. :D

And you were talking about how much I blew on a gig of ram? Hehe, I didn't even realize newegg was selling cars now!;)

Well, I almost put together 2 computers + a 19" monitor + a printer. I had to get 4x512's. I wouldn't have been able to afford 4 of those 2-2-2's. :p

Cheers :D

Only problem I see is some of those early versions of A7N8X's couldn't get very high FSB's ussually top out around 185 or alittle higher. If you do have problems check out NForcersHQ and find the UBER 1004 bios it has help alot of people get highier FSB's.

This is a good thread as i am also looking for an upgrade cpu for the exact same mobo. By the way, is "Socket A" the same as what the manual refers to as 462-pin ZIF? Im not finding what Socket A means in the manual

Also what is the highest CPU speed i can possibly insert in this A7N8X-E Deluxe?
