Hello everyone, had a quick question as to which Ati silencer version would be right for me? The 1 for 3? I have an ATI 9800 Pro 128MB. The thing is ive been looking at these guys, and the number 1 on some site says 9800 pro's with Memory heat sinks. The 3 says for 9800 xt and pro 256mb versions. My 9800 pro does not have these memory heat sinks on them and has the non square gpu heat sink and one little small heat sink on the top left area.

Should i go for the number 3? I rather have cooler cooling the memory chips instead of the number 1. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

w/ an ATI 9800PRO 128mb you prolly just want a normal VGA Silencer rev 3 as opposed to an ATI Silencer, NE has it for around $17 shipped if I recall correctly and SVC.com had it for 11+ shipping recently if you used the maxpcaugust code not sure if thats still going tho.

According to the description, 1 is for you if you have glued RAM sinks on your RAM on your graphics card.

And you can use 3 if you have not glued RAM sinks on your RAM on your graphics card. Then, the cooler heatsink will cool the RAM as well.

You can see that the copper sink is much bigger on this one.

Oh well, went with the oldver vga silencer because I didnt want to risk having to return the thing. Also the svc deal was pretty good 20 bucks after tax and shipping because I got some ram sinks also. Instead of 35 bucks+6 shipping + 4 bucks tax = 45 bucks for an ati silencer 3.

I was trying to compare the pcb boards with the ati silencer copper layout. It seems to me the # 3 might be blocked by the 2 extra capacitor chips on the 9800 pro's in the upper left area. Where as the xt/256 models do not have the 2 extra capacitors. Oh well, hope someone buys one and posts their results anyways, might switch in future. Thanks!
