Which ATI card would you buy: 9800, 9800pro, 9800pro256MB?

Let's say that the 9800 cost ~$200, the 9800pro ~$250, and the 256MB version ~$300. Which would you buy?

what games do you play?

I've never played games with large hardware requirements. But I want to get Star Wars Galaxies. And I don't think my GF2 32 MB card will cut it. Neither will my 533 MHz Celeron.

So the non-pro 9800 and OC it, you say?

I don't usually overclock so I'd get the pro 128 MB. The extra memory in the 256 is useless so I wouldn't pay for it.

I don't think the extra hundred bucks is worth it for the pro when the normal one overclocks to pro level. So if I had to buy one today it would be the non-pro. Maybe in like a month the price difference will be marginal, and the pro would be more worth it.

didn't notice you have those prices. I would get the pro for fifty more.

9800Pro...as I have it and love it.

The 256 is a waste of $ and the 9800 cant reach the speeds that a 9800pro can.

9800 non pro overclocks to pro speed. the amount a pro may overclock past what a no pro will overclock to is insignificant. definitly not worth about $100.

OK - I'd take the 9800 np. I just don't understand paying 20% more for a card that is only a few frames faster.

Assuming the 9800 Pro was only $50 more than a 9800, I'd go for the Pro. But if you'll be paying retail prices, it's tougher to say whether the Pro is worth $100 more. I don't think the 256MB version is worth it at all, but it may be worth it for newer games that may have a lot of textures. [ H ] showed a UT2K3 level that definitely benefitted from the extra RAM. But most games won't show a difference.

Here are the clock speeds, if you're interested:

9800 Pro 380/340
9800 325/290
