Hi.

Why would you choose the PRO/DELUXE/WS version over the std?

I'm thinking about buying a Intel 3930k and a ASUS P9X79 board.

But i can't see any reason to buy the PRO/DELUXE/WS other then the USB3/SATA/Bluetooh/WIFI things.

And the SSD cache thing.

I'm only going to run with 2 gfx cards.

I went for the Pro as its the first model with the increased VRM count. I wasn't all that bothered by the Wifi or the additions on the Deluxe model or wifi model.

However I have found it gets very very hot when under load at normal speeds. I get warnings in the Asus AI about the motherboard being above 60 C and its put me off overclocking as the VRM heatsink will burn instantly without air pushed over it. I avoided getting a Sabertooth because I was worried about the noise of the whiney fan, but I had in the back of my mind if it was a problem I could just watercool it, which I am now having to do. The extra VRMs for overclocking are a good reason to get the Pro or above, but I wouldn't want to overclock it without really good directed air cooling on the VRMs and the X79 chip.

But now I feel I am missing out on the sabertooths extra temperature monitoring and enhanced overclocking design that for the saving of £20 it wasn't worth it. My advice is therefore to get the Sabertooth, its a better board for enthusiasts and its not all that much more expensive. Its got a little whiny fan, but reports are that its not all that bad and with QFan you can choose precisely how fast you want it to run, or just turn it off and you get a better cooled design than the pro and still not noise.
