hello,

can someone help me decide which laptop is better? i am looking for a laptop under 1500k. it'll be use pretty much for everything i do. some of the heavy stuff i do is gaming(like CS:SOURCE,WOW,AOE3,) multitasking, music/media. mobility is important so i need a 14" screen but i dont want it to lack performance. i'll upgrade to 2gb ram for either of these. I dont want vista.

i'm stuck between these two ASUS from newegg. they give me the best price for the vid/cpu that i've seen out there. i am not sure which one out-ways the other.

i know the core2 duo 2.0ghz is better than the core1 duo 1.83.
i guess what i'm truly stuck at is the video card, is the x1700 256mb better than the 512 nvidia7600? is there much of of difference. if the nvidia is better, is would be it ok to sacrifice the lower end cpu?
i dont mind the HD difference.

what's everyones input or opinion on ASUS notebooks? are they sturdy? strong? last long? easy to use?

also, if i upgrade the ram using newegg, i saw that newegg offers ddr2 677 with pc2 5300 and pc2 5400. which is the correct ram for these two asus laptops?

any help or input would be appreciated,
ky

p.s. I WISH I HAD MONEY FOR THE ASUS G1. THAT WOULD BE THE S*IT!!!

The A8Jp (MR X1700, C2D) is better. The only A series notebook better than the A8Jp is the A8Js, which has the 7700Go (a better card than both the X1700 and the 7600 because it has more pixel pipes). As far as how the A and F series notebooks are from Asus, they have their downsides, but they are the value line from Asus. They are certainly good notebooks for the price and package.

-PC5300 and PC5400 are the same. Some manufacturers round up, some round down. Just get the cheapest with the best reviews.

I have had the A8Js for about 3 months now.

I am selling it and going back to Dell. I LOATHE this piece of crap.

- Less than 2 hours of battery life watching a movie
- Crashes going in and out of standby despite me trying dozens of different drivers
- Worthless speakers, don't plan on watching movies without external speakers or headphones
- The DVD drive is SO M-FING LOUD. I can't even describe it, it's like a freaking fighter jet hitting the sound barrier when I put in a DVD.
- Sharp leading edges make it very uncomfortable to rest your wrists on; bad for carpal tunnel if you're the type.
- Overpriced
- Horrendous touchpad. Registers 'clicks' all the time despite not touching it. When you do want to click, the buttons are awful. Also, on my laptop, it isn't flush and it sticks up from the bezel looking fugly.
- When I rock the laptop side to side, there's a screw or something in there sliding around. Common problem.

I am excited for my Inspiron 9400 which should be coming in a couple weeks. Fvck portability if it means dealing with a piece of junk like this.
