record of lodoss war, robotech, or neon genesis evangelion?

i've seen abit of lodoss, might have seen some of robotech as a kid, and have seen nothing of neon geneisis.which would be the best choice?i'm not a huge anime fan but i'm trying to get back into it, i only have akira and vampire d on dvd right now but looking to expand.
 
Of those, I found Record of Lodoss War the most watchable.

But I'd recommend PlanetES or Azumanga Daioh.

Why does everyone always hate listening to the English actors so much? Yeah if I spoke Japanese I'd prefer the original, but why scan text at the bottom if it can be avoided?

Is this some sort of elitist thing?

Yeah I dunno, I'd actually prefer my anime in English so I can actually watch the anime instead of having to speed read the damn captions all the time and always miss the action. I'm a slow reader.
 
Are we talking ROLW the TV series, or the OVA/Movies? The TV series was pretty awful, and rewrote parts of the story to make it "work" better. Eva is pretty standard fare, a kind of complicated story though, and it gets a little weird later on, but decent for the most part. Stay away from Robotech though, unless you get a boner on for all things giant robots.
 
If you like dubs, I say there's nothing wrong with listening to them. However, I find they detract a lot from the viewing experience, since usually the dubbed voice acting is bad. I've also seen cases where the English translation is altered for meaning, which generally doesn't happen with subtitles.

Well, the Pokemon voice acting was awesome.

Also have you guys ever heard stuff like Dragonball Z's audio without the video? The fight scenes sound pretty...suggestive.

no. I'm not even an otaku, but but first of all, the dub actors are terrible for eva, esp. asuka and shinji. And if you can't read 10 words in 4 seconds, then you're probably too fvcking stupid to understand what the hell is going on in any decent anime anyways.

QFT. It's not about it being original and untouched, it's all about how good a job they did translating and doing the voice overs. Generally they do a poor job, lose a lot of the meaning in the translation, and overall make it seem not as good as it should be. There are some exceptions though, and a few that I'll watch only in English.

even experts on the teenage mind should be able to realize that the voices of english actors in Japanese Animes generally blow
 
Robotech: Macross Saga. The other parts are boring. I couldn't finish them because they weren't at all interesting.

I just finished disc 2 of evangelion: platinum about 10 minutes ago. Watching it in English because I really don't give a damn about watching it with subs just to get more out of it or something.
