Hello,

I'm a fairly new member of the the Anandtech group, but have been coming here for information for quite some time now.

Anyway, I'm in the process of building myself a new PC and pretty have everything except for a HDD and CPU. My motherboard is an Asus A7N8X Deluxe and I just purchased 512Mb of Kingston PC2700 HyperX memory. I know the memory isn't the best I could have bought, but money is a big issue and from what I read, it seemed as thought the HyperX line was a decent one.

Now, the real question I have... With the above configuration will I be able to overclock a XP1700 to a satisfactory speed? Or, would it be better to invest a little more money and get the XP2100? I plan on playing games with this PC.

Also, I noticed most everyone specifing the date codes on their processors. For the two above processors, which date codes have been overclocking better?

Thanks for any advice,
Scott

the 1700+ should do you just fine
if you have the money to get a 2100+ or a 2500+ then do it
they all overclock well

Alot would say the 1700+ Tbred, but if you get a good 2100+ Tbred that might be the ticket. My 2100+ did 2.4GHz so it all depends with what how good your chip is.Some 1700+ are clocking high close to what the 2100+ get but they are harder to find. Its a toss up between the two.

Almost all TBred B stepping XP2100 can do(stable) at 166X13=XP2700 with 1.65-1.70 Vcore.

My friend has built around 10 systems like this, all can be run stable at that frequency,
and 2 of them are even can go to 2.35-2.4GHZ with 1.75 Vcore.

I would say go with TBred B stepping XP2100.

I've got the JIUHB1700+ from the ExcaliberPC yesterday. It's doing ~2.3Ghz (12.5x185)@1.70V right now. I ran the Prime95 for a few hours without errors, and that's enough for me. Only if I can afford a couple of high speed DDR.
