hey there. i've got an AMD tbird 800 with a kt7 and i'm planning to overclock it, which means i've gotta get a better heatsink and fan than a stock one. i've heard of that the fop38's a pretty good one, but if there's anyone who like to recommend their favourite then i'm open to suggestions!

and i've also heard that some heatsinks are tricky and pretty risky to install, resulting in chip crackage. any input on this topic, guys?

if you are going to be a overclockers get the fop38 if you can stand the sound, i'd figure the alpha with the delta 38cfm on it would be better. If you want quiet get a alpha with a 23cfm sunon but thats expensive. Or get the forged steel taisol for $33 which is also expensive. For just a good decent heatsink, you cant go wrong with the taisol 733/734 ($13/$20) or the vantec socket A with the sunon 23cfm from 2cooltek, i read somewhere that if you put the vantec with a delta fan its nearly as good as the fop38 or alpha. It has a very easy to install clip, i have one, there is this huge metal thing for your thumb. Most of the coolermaster ones are hard to install and dont cool extrodinarily well, but they are cheap and recommended by AMD. you can also go for a chrome orb or a super chrome orb, but the taisol or vantec would probably be better values. The cheapest one i'd recommend is the vantec, and for all out, get a pal6035 with a 38cfm deaf maker fan.

Zedfu,

Some hsfs require alot of pressue which can result in a cracked chip IF the hsf isn't held flat to the core when fastening the clip. FOPs are pretty hard. The new TAISOL has a clip that connects with all 3 notches on the socket 462. This spreads the pressure across all three. some people have broken off a single notch as the clip pressure is high. I also recommend using the PCTC pad that comes on the Taisol and the FOP. It adds a little cushion between the hsf and the chip and seems to prevent chipping.

and another thing guys. i'm interested in the taisol 7** series heatsink/fans. i have a kt7 mobo, and as i should be aware the capacitors around the socket are pretty close, resulting in bending the capacitors away in order to fit the heatsink...although i can bend the capacitor to overcome this problem, i definitely do not want to go this way. in other words i need some reassurance from you guys since you know more about heatsink than me that heat sinks from taisol will fit without modifications. thanks.

I have an Alpha pal6035, and it went on pretty easily, and does a good job of cooling.
I have my factory unlocked 650 @ 750 (107X7), @ 1.5v.
Pretty stable, and running nicely :)

I had the Vantec before switching over to the Alpha Pal6035. The Vantec did an okay job, but my Alpha lowered my CPU temps by about 13C from when the Vantec was on. :D
