which AMD cpu is low power?

I have a laptop with an intel t5250 and I get about 4.5 hrs of battery life.

I assume this is some moblie chip thats is lower power consumption than normal.
What is the designation for these? Centrino? Are all Centrino's extra battery life chips?

Need another laptop wioth good battery life so my main question is:

What *AMD* chips are similar in that they have much longer battery life?

 
Model for model, Intel will normally win the low power consumption and less heat race.

In order to be more definitive, what is your desired battery life standard for the 2nd laptop? I.e., AMD should be what? Longer than 4.5 hours?

AMD's best effort in this department right now is the Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile chip.

Other factors weigh in to that equation, Screen size, HDD speed, optical drive, and RAM.

Centrino is the overall system used by Intel in their better laptop designs.
 
No, I don't expect over 4 hrs.
I have a Celeron that only does 2hrs, and the other Core Duo (with a Centrino) does 4.5 or so.

Just want to know which AMDs are in the 4 hr range, so I dont get a 2hr AMD.

As best I can tell any AMD labeled mobile will be ok, yes?

(And the Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile chip is the best)

And do you mean Intel is just little bit longer battery life, or Intel is *much* better battery life in general?

I mean that Intel is more energy efficient, and it also wins the performance race for comparable models.

2-3 hours seems to be about average for most AMD systems. Like I said, systems with big screens burn more juice - and the biggest consumer is playing a DVD movie.
 
battery life on laptops have more to play on the display then on the cpu.

When comparing equally equipped machines (same screen size, similar AmpHours battery, integrated GPU or the same dedicated card), then the processor/chipset becomes the dominating factor.

nonono.. i mean the LCD pannel. Brightness plays a hugh role on battery life, and how big the screen is.

Otherwise if you were to compare to simular chips. A T7300 @ 2.0 vs a T7500 @ 2.4 The battery life difference is marginal.

I understand what you're saying, but in the context of the post, we're not talking about chips of the same core - we're talking different processor cores (Turion X2 vs. Core 2 Duo). And with such and all else equal (including screens), Intel chips tend to win out by 10-20+ minutes.
 
My 14" Celeron gets ~2 hrs.
My 15" Core 2 Duo gets ~4 hrs.

I'm confused!

Better battery?
I just assumed the Core Duo were much more efficient chips.

The Core2Duo is a newer level of manufacturing technology, and results in a more efficient design. Uses less power, runs cooler, and performs better.

Not in the current generation of AMD cpus. Maybe in a future generation when they have better integration between the chipset and the processors, since development will then be all in-house.

That's right! And by then, Intel will launch another improvement. They now have AMD chasing instead of leading, especially in the area of notebook/laptop/mobile processors.
