The toner/ink costs offset the price (Samsung toner cost $70, while you can buy 3rd party Canon for $40).

the biggest thing this machine will be used is printing Avery labels. I read on an Amazon review that the with the Samsung, you can only do 1 sheet of labels at a time. I have not been able to verify this at all.

I would include HP, but I tried an HP at the store and it just looked way too confusing to use (This is for my parents).

I have a Canon MF6550 and it rocks... I'll never go back to any other printer. Yes, the toner carts are expensive, but they last a good while. I print Avery labels with mine, I run them through the side tray, or put them in the main tray if I have a bunch, no problems.

I would expect the MF4450 would be the same...
 
I have the Canon MF5770. I'd hate to go back to inkjet for my normal use. I still have a Canon iP4200 ink printer...and it's great, but the costs of using chipped cartridges makes it expensive for anything other than the occasional color print.
