which aircool HSF for overclocking i7-3770k to 4.5ghz

looking for 4.5ghz everyday stable 24/7 overclock.

quick preliminary overclock. deepcool assasin hsf. vcore initally to 1.25v. cpu initally to 4.5ghz. turbo off. vdroop on. everything else default.

results. window7 boots fine, prime 95 stable for 30min (temps were in the 70s), however SC2 would crash back to windows.

originally started with a deepcool assassin, however either (1) the weight of the hsf or (2) the pressure of clamp down system or (3) both is causing the asrock z77 extreme4 to warp causing connectivity error.

looking for other aircool cooling alternatives. perhap medium duty. cooler master evo 212 with push/pull.



what are some of your results with medium duty aircool hsf setup? do keep in mind - within tolerable noise level.

Evo 212 is great. Noctua NH-D14 is even better. Both bool great and keep noise to a minimum.

Not too hard to do. I got non-insane temps with a 3570K @ 4.5GHz (forget the Vcore atm)
using IC Diamond and either a Hyper 212+ or Kuhler 620 w/push-pull fans.

noctural nh-d14 is another 3+ pounder just like the deepcool assassin. that class of hsf is definitely on hold. at least until the culprit for error 10 with asrock z77 extreme4 can be pin pointed and repeated with accuracy.

the stock intel cooler is working great, however no overclocking. a move to a medium size hsf is the current decision.

just looking for alternative in comparison to a CM 212 evo in reaching 4.5Ghz stable 24/7.

I use a Zalman CNPS9900MAX-R and it works wonderfully, it really is an over looked cooler. It only weighs 1.66 pounds and comes with a decent backplate to distribute the weight. The only downside to the CNPS is that the fan is NOT replaceable and probably the main reason people don't consider it. I own two CNPS9900's, the first one I have had for ~5 years and still going strong.

I ran my i5-3570k at 4.5GHz for over a month stable and it always stayed below 70C under load.
