Which agp x800 to get?

Leros

Lifer
I'm gonna be buying an agp x800 tonight. I'm not quite sure which one to get. I'm not quite sure what to look for.

I was looking at an x800 Pro Text

Somebody suggested I get the x800 XL Text

Is the XL better than the Pro? I noticed the clockspeed is a bit lower? I would look at the specs, but newegg seems to be down and I dont rememebr the exact models, just the links from another thread.

I want to spend around $240ish. In fact, my dad gave me $244.

Why is the XL better? The pro I linked to has a clock of 475/980 (core/mem) while the XL has a clock of 400/980. Seems that the Pro should be faster due to a faster GPU. Am I missing something?

The Pro has 12 pipelines whilst the XL has 16. Do what PaidLess said.

this would be the best cost effective solution at the moment.

some benches but it appears at this time there are no cards in the ati clearance section 🙁

hopefully this will change. but get the pro because the differences, imo, aren't worth the ~$20 difference in cost.

I have to order this card tonight. So if there arent any cards in the ATI clearance I will have to get one from Newegg.

If it comes to that, is 400mhz wtih 16 pipelines better than 475mhz with 12 pipelines?

Trying to answer my own question.

Is it safe to say:

XL - 400*16 = 6400

Pro - 475*12 = 5700

Therefore XL is better. Does that have any truth in it?

It's what I did...have a BBA X800Pro flashed to XT PE bios and also volt modded.

Most say that it will shorten the life of the video card...but then again if you're one to do this you probably won't have the card long enough for it to burn out...you'll just pass it onto someone who wants a budget vid card.

I really dont want to modify anything or buy additional cooling to overclock. Id prefer to run at stock speeds.

X800XL is your best choice then.

Yes it does come clocked slower than an X800Pro out of the box, but it also has 16 active pipes compared to the Pros 12.

You can use Riva tuner to up the clock to Pro speeds, and still use stock cooling.

Best Buy sometimes has them on sale for like 200-250, probably less now because that was about 2 months ago.

Good luck.

EDIT: Unless Best Buy's website is REALLY screwed up right now (which I think it is) they have a BBA X850Pro AGP on sale for 269.99...which is 30 dollars cheaper than what they have the X800Pro listed for that is right below it.

If I were you, I'd order that right now, yea it might be a little more expensive than Newegg, but you're getting a MUCH better card.

I ended up getting the x800xl that I linked to in my OP. It didnt have any reviews, but it seems like a good choice.
