Which AGP video card to get?

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 thats about a year and a half old. I was going to build a whole new rig for christmas, but I don't think my computer is old enough to justify the $1800 cost of a new one. My system works great, but the reason I was gonna build a new rig is for gaming. I put a 9600xt in my Dell last year, but this no longer satisfies me. I figured I'd get a fast AGP card, wait another year or so, and then build a whole new rig. So my question is, what AGP card is the best bang for the buck in the $250-$400 range? Maybe $400 is too high, you tell me. I will be gaming at 1024x768 most of the time.

Those cards look good, but whats the recommend PSU watts for them? I'm not sure how many watts my Dell has, or even if there is an internal power supply connector for the card.

It may be better to look at something readily available instead of a card with no launch, no price, and no proof of existance (pics).

SOmething like a 6800GT or x850 would be excellent. The X850XT is a bit rare for AGP being sold out most places, but you can get the normal x850 around. I prefer the 6800GT myself, but that is only because I was frustrated with ATI's drivers and how they liked to randomly freeze a few of my games. Maybe it was just my setup, but the 6800GT I have is giving no lockups and I'm overclocking it to 420/1.1Ghz which is just beyond Ultra speeds.

Diamond says Available December, 2005 and the OP is looking for a X-mas build. ;)

and OP, the specs say:
? 420 Watt ATX 2.0 or greater power supply.Consult your computer system manual to ensure the power supply is designed to accommodate a high-end graphics card with a peak dissipation above 75 watts.

i believe you can use a molex connecter for AGP [from your HD/DVDrom, etc.] . . . i don't know what you Dell has . . . look on their site or search here.

I just got a BFG 6800 GT and play HL2 and Doom 3 and it works great at that resolution! I also got tired of all the hassle of ATI's drivers. Good luck!
