I have a MS-K8T Master2 FAR, (2) AMD Opteron 244, 1024MB PC3200 DDR, and an Antec True Power 550W PSU.

Which of these cards shoudl I buy -- or is there a different AGP card to go for?

eVGA 256-A8-N542-AX Geforce 7600GS 256MB GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail ($153)

PNY VCG76512SAPB Geforce 7600GS 512MB GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail ($140)

ATI 100-435712 Radeon X850PRO 256MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail ($144)

And a new suggestion:
BFG Tech OC Geforce 6800GS 256MB GDDR3 ($160)

Thanks for the input! :)

I'm with josh6079. I'd like you to buy me a Gainward BLISS 7900GS+ which has 24-pipes and 512MB of GDDR3! Let me know when you've gotten it for me and I'lll give you my address. Thanks for your generosity!:)

I was taught never to look a gifted horse in the mouth, so feel free to buy me any of the aforementioned cards you would like! :p

Seriously though... I would go with the Leadtek 7600GT over any of the choices above by a wide margin & second choice would be an X850XT.

Its a a good deal considering the price, but won't outperform a 6600GT by much, if at all ... either of the other cards I suggested before will beat it by a wide margin, albeit at a considerably higher price.

Another good bet would be this Sapphire X800GTO which is pretty fast as is, but also has a decent chance of allowing you to flash its BIOS & turn it into an X850XT:

i'm not terribly crazy about nvidia i guess. i dont like that it preempts the bios on my motherboard.. and, in general, i am at leat under the impression that ati gives you more bang for the buck.
plus i cant find a 7600GT at new egg.. and i cant find the 6600gt anywhere for agp (i didnt look too hard. i like new egg. excellent service :)).

would you still suggest the x800gto over the x850 pro i posted?
and how good of a chance is there that i will be able to up-flash it? :)

The X800GTO should be very close in performance to the X850 Pro at default clockspeeds with 12 pipelines & if the BIOS flash is successful it'll be quite a bit faster & the X850 Pro can't be flashed to 16 pipelines as far as I know.

The odds of success are pretty high as long as you get one of the cards with an R480 core, so be sure to confirm this with ATI tool before you attempt to do it, however most if not all of the new cards do. (for this reason, don't even consider any "open-box" models of this card ... my bet is most are returned because they are the older core or failed to unlock)

The only issue you are likely to run into is a need for better cooling after unlocking all the pixel-pipelines ... either that or you may need to use ATI tool to lower the clockspeeds after the BIOS flash to keep heat in check.

Edit: Disclaimer - Be advised that even though your odds of success are very good, there is a chance you could kill your card with this procedure.

It is a sweet card, and takes everything I can throw at it.

I still wanna see if ATI comes out with the X1950pro in AGP....I'd like to see that.
