He currently has his e6300 running at 2.8 but and is stable but I'd like to get the temps down some and extend the life of his cpu. What are the most popular coolers atm? He doesn't need extreme cooling for insane overclocks so i'd like to stay away from anything too noisy.

TT Big Typhoon ftw, or if you want something cheaper go with a Zalman CNPS7700.

I have a thermaltake blue orb 2 and I haven't had any problems with it and it does a nice job, that and I tend to become mezmorized by pretty lights....

tyvm sir

This might be a bit of a tight fit depending on his motherboard layout. Go for the better aligned and better performance Zalman 9500 or 9700.

i think this cooler has problem with P5B series.
the metal thingy for attaching the heatsink has no clearance with the caps around the CPU socket
