which actors would do well to stretch themselves?

I think Steve Carell can be hilarious, but all he's done thus far (that I have seen anyway) is comedy, even though his role was semi-serious in Little Miss Sunshine. I think he'd make a great antagonist. Not as an evil plotting bad guy, but maybe a guy that either is or goes nuts, snaps, and shoots up a Wal-Mart or is a serial killer or something. Maybe even something like One Hour Photo. I thought that sucked because Robin Williams shouldn't stretch himself, IMO, and the latter half of it just wasn't a good movie anyway. But Steve Carell as an oppressed character pushed past his limit would work well, I think.

Who else?

I don't know about Carrel, man. That'd be like watching Denzel play a goofy, foul-mouthed sex-maniac in a Judd Apatow or Farrelly Brothers production.

*shrug*

In the right context I think his stare could be creepy as all hell.

Like Robin Williams did with that photography movie?

wasn't he sort of a bad guy in bruce almighty (sorta)? He was an ass at least.

It'd be kinda cool to see him as like a megalomanic eveeeeeel take over the world bad guy. In the right movie I guess.

I could easily see Carrel playing the antagonist in a serious movie. A lot of people didn't give Jim Carry any credit after the Ace Ventura movies, until he blew their minds with The Truman Show and Man on the Moon.

I thought he did quite a good job in Number 23.

Keanu Reeves might do well if he would stretch himself to actually act in movies..

That's the kind of bad guy I DON'T think he should be. I don't mean he needs to sit in some lair tapping his fingers together and laughing evilly at how evil he is.

I thought Number 23 was kind of stupid. Had some good parts, but ultimately a lame ending that made other iffy parts of the movie lame.

That's fair, he was great in Good Will Hunting. I never saw Awakenings. I should've clarified by saying that based on One Hour Photo, he shouldn't try to play any sort of antagonist, anti-hero, or other type of negative character.

what about 'insomnia'? i thought williams was solid in that playing the murderer tormenting pacino because he knew his secret and was using it against him to get his help in avoiding falling under suspicion.

Keira Knightley, Jessica Alba, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman should make a movie where they stretch themselves. And each other. For a couple hours. Just 120 minutes of hot women stretching.

That movie would earn a billion dollars.

Apparently there are a number of Robin Williams movies that I've missed over the years.

Steven Seagal should try to play a steely-eyed, martial arts and weapons expert, current or former cop/military (perhaps even one who goes against the grain and/or has been discredited), who is the only man, hopelessly outnumbered, standing between a really bad guy and something really bad happening.

The best movie he ever made was "Executive Decision".

He won an academy award for his performance in that movie.
