Which Abit to get?

I'm leaning towards getting the Abit KG7-RAID, but I've also heard good things about the KR7A. I'm not necessarily interested in a RAID setup but I want to be able to use all 4 channels as IDE's.

Suggestions?

The KG7 uses the AMD 760 chipset. It's very good and very stable. However, the newer KR7A uses the Via KT266A chipset. It's about 1/3 faster than the KG7.

There's nothing wrong w/the KG7...it just doesn't perform as well as the KR7A.

Thanks, MichaelD. Somehow I missed seeing that little tidbit about the speed difference. Looks like I'll be getting the KR7A. ;)

between those 2 i also would go with the kr7a (the kr7a wouldnt be my first choice for a motherboard, but the kt266a chipset is currently the best in my opinion)

I bought the KR7A/RAID. At the time, it seemed to be the best RAID-equipped mobo. I wanted the four IDE ports for flexible system configuration and elimination of any master/slave config.

If I were making that choice today, I'd buy the Shuttle AK35GTR and spend the $$ difference elsewhere.

I have no problems with the KR7A/RAID board - I just think it's overpriced.

Hope this helps!

I use the KG7-Raid in my 2 comps. and can truthfully say I have nothing negative to say about them... (ok, the $$ seemed a little high)

They are rock solid and run my stuff great.

Now, with that said, AMD is not interested in being a player in the chipset market and the 761 was just a tool to get DDR to market faster.

I think you are going to see better long-term support for the KT266A. It is also faster (although I believe you will need a benchmarking

tool to ever "see" that difference)

If I had to buy a MoBo today, it would probably be the KR7A-133 Raid unless the $$ was significantly higher than the KG7-Raid
