I remember reading somewhere that there's three diff types of memory in 9600 pros (obviously I want the fastest memory chips which I think are samsung?)... Which 9600 pro is the one to get right now? I liked what I read about the tyan tachyon but I can't find them online so far.... any suggestions?

The Tachyon cards are supposed to be damn good. Possibly try their site and see what online retailers show up. Or you could email newegg and request that they carry them.

Isn't the ATI card itself good for Overclocking?

I think it is, but I can't be positive... Like I said, I saw a chart once about the three diff memory chips that go into 9600 pros, one set of chips (the samsung ones) has the best oc'ing ability and then theres a moderately useful set of chips and then a set of chips thats practically at their limit at stock speeds..........

Anyone know where I found this or have a link to it?

i have an ATi 9600 pro and it is great OCer 525/375 i think

i'm actually trying to find a thread i posted this same question in a few days ago b/c i can't recall what exactly people had to say about it. i do recall one person telling me to steer clear of PowerColor, but most other resellers are good b/c the 9600 pro is great in general. someone also mentioned that Sapphire makes a better than average 9600 pro. i'm going to keep searching for that thread, and if i ever find it and it has some useful material, i'll post it here...

Here's a link to that thread i mentioned in my above post. people had alot of useful information in that thread. i asked the question about halfway down the second page. anyways, i think i'm either going with the ATI, TYAN, or Sapphire. i don't really need to OC it. its for my sister's new system. She plays games like the Sims, but nothing too frame-intensive. As long as its a rock solid, quality card...
