Looking for some opinions on what to do in my situation, any input is much appreciated!
So I'm planning on building a new rig this month, and am a bit torn on what route to go with the video card. I use a 19" monitor and mostly game at 1280x1024 resolution, and don't have any immediate plans to get a bigger display. I'm leaning towards a 7900GT for price/performance, and knowing that I will also need to make a new rig for my wife in the next year or so. She'll be running with the X800XT that I'm replacing, on a 17" monitor at even lower resolutions. I figure she can handle the lower performance until some game comes out that absolutely requires an upgrade, and I can give her whatever card I buy now.
Fyi, I am looking at getting a E6300/E6400 and OC'ing it a bit to pair with this new card. Will I be missing much performance using a 7900GT for the next year or so? Is the price jump to a 7900GTX or 7950GX2 worth it for longevity?
