Which 7800 GTX to Get???

I'm upgrading to PCI-Express and a 7800 GTX. I'm going to get an ASUS A8N-SLi Premium motherboard. I was leading to the ASUS Extreme 7800 GTX. Newegg has it for $545 right now. I was also looking at the BFG 7800 GTX, and eVGA 7800GTX cards. What do you guys think?

I personaly think the gtx is a waste of money. If you look at benchmarks, the gtx is like minimaly faster than the 7800GT and a 7800gt can be had for around $330 now. Of course we wont get into money, thats up to you.

The brands. I mean really, any brand is going to be fine, as long as its a name brand that has been around a while. Personaly, id say Stick with EVGA or BFG. Im sure most will say this, as they are the 2 top brands always recommended. Both have lifetime warranties as well as great 24/7 and online LIVE(eVGA only) tech support. BFG is overclocked out of box, so it is also slightly faster. Not sure about the evga on that. Either way, both are great. Other brands decent too, but just do not have lifetime warranties.

well like modempower said it all depends on your budget. i would suggest you get a 7800GT for about 330 unless you want the absolute best.
i would recommend EVGA!! or leadtek.
EDIT: hmmm u can find the GTX for about 440-450 now.

I would reccomend EVGA simply due to their warranty. Both EVGA and BFG have lifetime warranties but EVGA's warranty is still in effect even if you overclock the card where as BFG's becomes void.

The lifetime warranty is what sold me on BFG during the past generation of cards (6xxx series) over the eVGA. This generation I would prefer a eVGA.

gotta go with what has been said... My last purchase was a BFG 6800 ultra o/c... my next adventure will be with the evga 7800 gt...as good of a card as the BFG and the warranty looks a little bit better...ditto on the gt vs the gtx....would get the gtx if perofrmance warranted it but the gt is so close that its not worth the extra money...

good luck!!

The Asus TOP if you got the Money (and don't mind 2 slot coolers) is the crazy fast 7800GTX to get.

can anyone show me a good review with benches of the 7800gt vs 7800gtx .... i thought if both cards are overclocked, the gtx can get about a 15% jump over the gt.

edit: btw i have a 22'' CRT monitor so i am not limited by resolution

They're all pretty much reference cards so go with the one that has the best warranty. Right now that would be eVGA so go with them.

Here are a couple quick ones I pulled.

Firingsquad review of BFG 7800GT
Look at the benchmarks of the fear demo as well as BF2.

AT XFX 7800GT overclocked review
Although, those are really high resolutions nobody plays at in this one, but hey. 😛

Check this out xbit

unless you go sli its a no brainer

lets cut the crap - the stock GTX is about 15-20% faster then the GT. Both can be overclocked by about 10-15% (GT a little more). The XFX GTX OC and EVGA GTX KO are factory overclocked the highest of all cards (and higher then the average overclock you could hope to get from a stock card). So that's a pretty siginificant performance advantage for the GTX which is definetely worth a $100-$150 extra. Just get the overclocked 7800 GTX and you'll be happy for a long time, cause even the X1800 will not surpass the overclocked GTX.

Well I guess my choices are down to two.

ASUS Extreme N7800GTX TOP
eVGA e-GeForce 7800GTX KO

I believe the ASUS has a 3yr warrenty, and the eVGA has a 2yr + Lifetime on repairs.

The asus top is just a $30 nv silencer. Im not sure its worth the $100 dollar price premium asus places on it.
