Flip a coin, they're both good brands with lifetime warranties.

The real question is, why a 7600GT? There are better AGP options in that price range.

From what other people have recommended based on my spec's (which are below sry). The card is pretty much for gaming. I will also be updating my ram to the 2 or 3 gigs.

Intel P4 2.6Ghz
Nvidia FX5700
512MBx2 DDR 3200 Ram
80GB Hard Drive
Intel 865 Perl Main board
Mid ATX Case
19" CRT with Zoom
Razer Barracuda headphones
Power is 420w (I think)

The 7600GT will work for the games listed, although there are better AGP alternatives.

You'd be better served having 2gb system memory and a 256mb videocard then having 1gb system memory and a 512mb videcard, especially in BF2.

For newer games, the 7600GT isn't gonna cut it i'm afraid. Upgrade time is near for you.

The options and savings available w/ PCI-E motherboards is what you need to start saving for if you want to play the newer titles well. You can get PCI-E mobos like the Abit IP-35E and the 2xxx series C2D processors cheaply these days and DDR-2 is real cheap right now, much cheaper than DDR-1.

I don't normally recommend ATi over nVidia simply because I can't stand Catalyst and I think nVidia's driver support is better. However, I am constantly playing newer games so that driver updates and timeframes matter to a gamer like me more.

For yourself, assuming you don't want to upgrade anything else for a bit and have decided that you simply want better graphics only. I would recommend the HD 2600 XT. Its better then the 7600GT and can be had for around $115-120 which was about your price range it seems.

Here is a quick example of the difference

About 8 FPS better then the 7600GT in BF2142

Agreed  + an additional 1gb system memory

But for the newer titles, Crysis for instance, you'll need to upgrade for playable framerates.

I also agree with you on the additional RAM. Much needed.

To be honest, if it were me I'd upgrade everything. DDR RAM is expensive, and you could end up getting 2gb DDR2 for the cost of 1gb DDR. Also, vid card options really open up for you with PCI-e

If you are playing BF2 get as much main system memory "RAM" as you can. I've alt-tabed out of BF2, and saw it eating 1.2 GB.

...here's what I had a little over a year ago:

Intel 965 mobo
2.8GHz P4-478 Prescott _ 1mb cache - intensely cooled with an Artic Cooling fan
X800 Pro AGP8x _ OC'd severely with a 3rd party cooler
2GB of slick 2-3-2-5 Patriot shielded RAM kept cool with other fans
SATA150 HD 7200RPM _ max the stock controller would support (execpt for a rap10K..)

I loved it for less than a month. I was like, BF2 wasn't fluid enough, GRAW wasn't water spilling enough, and I didn't even bother installing the F.E.A.R. demo onto the system.

Went for a core2 with an x1900XT 512mb before last X-mas, never looked back with regret. Games bled faster and harder.

Quadcore and a Geforce 8800 with 4gigs of XMS. Your 2007-2008 system is finished.

AGP = waste of money and dead end.
