Hi,
I picked up a ABIT KV8 Pro motherboard for dirt cheap awhile back and its been sitting around collecting dust. I thought I'd build a second computer with it before it becomes obsolete. The computer will not be used for gaming, and it will not be overclocked.

What I need to know is if I'm only surfing the web or doing word processing, will I notice a speed difference between a Sempron 64 or Athlon 64? I must admit I am a little confused about the Newcastle, Clawhammer, Palermo, Venice, Sempron, etc. As well as the operating frequency vs. L2 cache, FSB and the like.

I am not afraid to spend the money, I just do not want to waste it on overkill if I won't notice the difference in my web surfing and other minor stuff I do. I will be using 1 gig of Corsair Value RAM and am undecided on a video card. Any recommendations on a CPU/video card would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Frankly, there is no real difference in web surfing, playing MP3s etc, no matter what CPU you buy today.

If you game, then $120 A64 3000+ Venice S754 is the best choice IMO. Overclock it for even more goodness.

ding ding ding ... we have a WINNA !! That chip's down to $108 on Ewiz now. Very good deal on a very good overclocker.
