Which 5mp camera is the $300-$350 range should I buy?

Link to comparison of all 5.

I am getting married soon, and I want to get a new digital camera to take pics in Hawaii during our honeymoon. This camera is going to be used by my future wife and myself. My fiancee's main concern in LCD size.

The fuji 510 would be the cheapest around $240, and the other 4 can all be had for around $350ish...
The fujufilm 6 MP camera can be had for the same price as the 5MP canon and sony. Anyone know why the fujis are so much cheaper?

I think the sony might have the best picture quality, and it has a nice huge LCD.

Everyone one in off topic seems to love canons. I like the A95's swivel LCD.

Anyone have any opinions on my choices?

when buying consumer digital camera's, i highly recomend nikon then canon in that order... stay away from most every other brand

Thanks for the link.

Does anyone have any personal experience with the E550.

In the past, I would easily have recommended a Canon over Sony, but SOny has caught up in many regards with certain products--the DSCW1 being one of them.

Avoid the A95, since it has been noted that the Powershot models have easily scratched camera bodies.

Canons also have never gotten rid of purple fringing in high contrast pictures. Their photos in such instances have historically been more of an issue than with competing brands. This is, of course, only an issue with their digital cameras as their SLR stuff is top rate.

The Fuji E550 photos look great.

DSCV1 $359.10

Big LCD, eh? That's nice, but Hologram Autofocus Assist on the DSC-V1, is worth FAR more. Plus, it has 4X optical zoom and hot shoe. All around best point & shoot you can get. Again, being able to actually lock focus in dim light, or no light at all, is a critical difference.

I vote the Sony.

Your wife will love the big lcd screen.

The fuji's are cheaper BECAUSE they the ccd's in their range AREN'T really the 'stated' resolution. It is more often then not less and they use interpolation to boost it up. That is why they are cheaper.

BUT now a days it is at the stage where ANY of the cameras will do for a 'consumer'. The colours may not be true to life in some instance but people WANT bright and crazy cameras.

All the cameras will suffer from some form of purple fringing so that is m00t imo. Just don't shoot crazy scenes and it isn't as if the others aren't really going to show it as much either. It is also a 'relatively' cheap camera at $350 or so.

Few things to think about before you buy. Cheapest memory out there is compact flash which both the canons will use. The W1, great camera, but with a 2.5" LCD running on only 2 AA batteries? Id like to think you want your camera to last more than 40 minutes. The fujis are nice, but use the most expensive memory cards. I personally have a sony, but IMO, canon makes the best all around cameras. I agree with Ornery, get the V1 if you can find it....if not, the A95.

Not even close. W1 is 3X optical zoom VS V1's 4X. V1 has the Hologram Autofocus Assist, which allows it to lock focus in no light at all, let alone the dimly lit scenes that befuddle most, if not all the other cameras. The V1 has a hot shoe, which is a must for an external flash, which gives your camera a range of over 40', and saves your battery.

The memory stick is a whopping $15.00 more than a compact flash card. If that's enough to sway your decision...

I looked at the fujis when I was looking for a camera. Dont consider the E510. The shutter limitations and low light performance is not great. If you consider the 550, take a look at the low light performance. The review I read about the 510 mentioned that the shutter speed was the same for both cameras, hopefully the low light performance isnt the same.

Although I agree with the first part of your post, try to find 2GB worth of memory stick for $135...you can't come close. I have a sony and love it...back when I bought it, the price gap was even bigger, but that didn't stop me. You shouldn't pick your camera on the memory, but it is something to think about before you buy is all.

People looking to buy $300-$350 cards generally don't buy bigger then 512mb cards let alone a 2Gb beast of a card! By that time it would be cheaper anyway. And you can store a BOAT LOAD on a 512mb card.

The W1 will last:

" The Cyber-shot W1 is powered by two AA type cells with an average life of up to 340 shots when using high-capacity NiMH rechargeable"

Get the W1. It's cheaper. Has a bigger LCD. Accepts AA's--a big deal in the future and also MUCH cheaper than proprietary Li-Ion batts. And is small.

Go here to see why it makes more sense to get the VERY highly rated W1: http://www.dcresource.com

Go also to amazon.com, circuitcity.com, epinions.com to get reviews from people.

So guys you think the V1 is a good one to get than, correct? I just want to spend under $500 on everything. Thats about $300 more camera than I need, but want.

Edit: Will spend a little more if it's necessary.
