If you're going expensive ($250+) go all the way and get the Klipsch PMUs or Gigaworks. The Megaworks get mixed reviews, some say you could fry an egg on the amp's heatsink - and the sats don't have tweeters. I've read a lot of bad stuff about the Logitechs. I have have the GW 7.1 and they sound very nice.

megaworks have excellnt mid range, just burn in the speakers, and if you dont crank it up 24/7 then you have nothing to worry about, yes the back side is somewhat hot on hot days while being turned on for days, but never had issues with it. i have it combined with a audigy 2 and its incredible.

i've had the z-640s for about a year now, and i love them. for their price, they are outstanding. good sound quality, and very solidly constructed. of course, they don't get as loud as some of the more expensive speakers, but if thats what you're looking for, take a look at the z-680's.

The hiss was noticeable when I first got them, but honestly I don't notice it anymore unless I really try to pick up the sound. I think they are just the best computer speakers I've ever heard.

I'm guessing this means you haven't heard the Klipschs or the Creative Mega/Gigaworks.

Actually I have and I just didn't like them, especially the Klipschs.

Not to say that either of them sounded bad, but I just didn't prefer them as much.

The bass on the z680s is just sort of mushy and overbearing. It doesn't blend well with the satellites, which are sort of muffled themselves.

BTW, I have Gigaworks and don't like them. I think PC speakers just don't do it for me. 🙁

How weird thoe... i bought my first computer like 4+ years ago and it came with some Cambridge Soundworks speakers and damn they still work great and sound is just perfect...

hmm, the megaworks 550s look tempting. can anybody else comment on them? I'm avoiding the gigaworks, they're just too much $.

I have the 680s and they are awesome for the price. However 5300s are excellent for gaming, and watching DVD's. I didn't like them for music however due to the excessive bass.

The Megaworks are the Gigaworks' baby brother. They're supposed to be pretty darn good.
