I found a good deal on a Diamond HD4870 model # 4870PE51GDI

There is another 4870 made by diamond (model # 4870PE51G) that's a bit more expensive but has more memory bandwidth.

The 4870PE51GDI has 112 GB/sec, but the 4870PE51G has 160 GB/sec.

They both have all the identical and clock speeds on gpu and memory. They both have 1 GB of GDDR5 on board.

Can anyone tell me why the difference in memory bandwidth?

Memory bandwidth should be tied, in this case, of the GDDR5 frequency. Now, the stock clocked 4870 has 115 GB/sec, which corresponds to 3600mhz. AT 4000mhz (the highest factory oc for these cards) it gives 128 GB/sec. Now, that diamond card should probably have 5 ghz memory clock, to reach160 gb/sec, which is silly. GDDR5 that fast hasn't been invented yet. ;)

You made me curious and I've searched that particular card and got to the same 160 gb/sec. It's on Diamond site too. It must be a mistake and it has "only" 115 gb/sec, the usual norm for 4870.
