I've been looking at the different ones they have, but I'm not sure if there is really anything to look for. Supposedly the external officeconnect one offers up to 42Mbs down and 10Mbs up. And don't worry, I know those speeds are way out there compared to what any cable ISPs offer. I get around 2500Mbs from my 3Com CMX cable modem, which on the box supposedly only offers 1.5Mbs rates! This is one of my concerns, is it worth it to get the officeconnect one and hope that ISPs offer better speed contracts in the future?

Another thing is DOCSIS 1.1! They aren't really vary specific on which ones support this and which don't. I am guessing either it really doesn't mean anything and/or they ALL support it. I'm just doublechecking tho :). Heh, their information is so stupid. They brag on how "easy to use" their cable modems are. No sh*t, its just a bridge. Some have a built in USB NIC, which I wouldn't use anyway. But seriously, easy to use, bah.

If anyone can offer me some useful info and help, i would really appreciate it :). Thanks ahead of time. btw, i was tempted to start a separate "which router is the best?" thread, but i held myself back ;)

As far as isp's offering more in the future, I doubt it. Cable is pretty close to it's limit right now, at least as a shared resource. @Home definately won't get any faster, if they even continue to exist. Roadrunner is a better service, but smaller and less available. I just don't think cable is the 'broadband of the future' the way it was 5 years ago. @Home and the cable companies were too greedy and stupid and ruined it for everyone.

I'm just gonna get my bro the cheapest 3com one i can find. I've been looking around a bit, and the cheapest I have seen is $225. I KNOW there are the same ones out there for much much less. If anyone knows of a good place to get one, or search for them, please let me know! :)
Ive checked out pricewatch and altavista and haven't come up with much at all :(. Heck, pricewatch only carries one modem, and its about $250.

Thanks ahead of time :D
