I have looked online for a list but haven't found one. The Microsoft flash drive is a hilarious ripoff but apparently not all flash drives are compatible, particularly with the slim...

Might just be high speed ones, like they required for that silly "ReadyBoost" thing they had with Vista. So I'd imagine any drive certified ReadyBoost will work. Don't quote me on that though.

I use a relatively ($20) cheap Kingston thumb drive with no issues.

I think as long as it supports 70MB/s reads and 40 MB/s writes you should be OK.

I haven't heard of any flash drive not working. The system has to format it though.

Thanks, y'all.

I realized that at least as of this writing despite 32GB support Microsoft doesn't have any "official" drives anyway, so I'll grab one off amazon.

Those numbers seem very high. USB 2.0's theoretical maximum is 480Mb/s. Does the Slim have USB 3.0 ports?

Beware of the really cheap, really slow drives. I almost bought a SanDisk Cruzer on Black Friday (I think it was 32GB for $10), but the reviews were universally awful.
