I have 1 HDMI monitor which has just one HDMI socket on the back.
I have 2 computers I want connected to this 1 monitor, both via HDMI.
I want to buy this HDMI switch: http://www.ebuyer.com/230495-plexus-black-metal-auto-hdmi-switch-2-inputs-to-1-output-lu-622

So I need 3 HDMI cables:
  1. Monitor to "output" on the switch
  2. Computer 1 to "input" on the switch
  3. Computer 2 to "input" on the switch

Which HDMI cables do I need? I'm not sure about the male and females.

You need 3 male to male HDMI cables. A bigger concern should be:
Switching is done itself automatically when signal present on the ports
One that manually switched (through an action on your part) would be a better choice.

This also could be an issue, depending upon the resolution you're trying to display:
Maintains high resolution video, sharp HDTV resolutions up to 1080p,Computer resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 are easily achieved

Thank you very much. The monitor max is 1080p so should be OK. Manual switching I would like actually, may have to go for another type. Thanks for pointing that out!

I've noticed some say, "Supports 12bit per channel (36bit all channel) deep color". What does this mean? My monitor supports 24-bit colour. Do I lose colours with that kind of switch?

Probably cheaper and easier to just buy a DVI - HDMI adapter since your monitor surely has another DVI port. Then you just hit the input button on your monitor. Will only work if you're not running audio through the HDMI though

If you built your computer you probably have one. Should look like this
