I want to buy a 266-A motherboard. Don't need to use RAID but I do need to connect more than 4 IDE devices. Which current 266-A RAID boards will allow using the RAID ports in non-RAID mode to just connect more drives?

The Abit KR7A Raid does.
I just bought mine and love it, fast, stable and expensive

The Asus A7v266-E has a jumper to set the extra ports to non-raid mode. I have had my hard drive running on the Promise controller in non-raid mode with no problems. Somebody had claimed that you could not use the Promise connections on this board for CD-ROM or CD-RW, but right now I have my CD-ROM connected to it and everything is running perfect.
