I am looking to buy dual 22 inch displays, I work from home doing technical support and also a very heavy gamer. Price is a concern of course as I am buying two monitors, so far I am split between these two.

Dell Ultra Sharp 2208WFP

&

Samsung 2253BW

Any thoughts about how these stack up against each other, personal experience with either, or even a recommendation of another model in the same price range?

No personal experience with these exact models, but I do have a Samsung 226BW, which as I understand is the predecessor to the 2253BW. I have been very pleased with the 226BW. It has a slight blue tint, but I have a decent color profile that corrects it. I know several people with the 2253 and they have had no complaints; it seems to have only improved on the 226. Not sure if there is still a panel lottery, but that was a major controversy with the older model. I got a "C" panel, which was considered lesser than the Samsung-manufactured "S", but it's been a very solid monitor and have considered getting a 2253 based on my experience.

Acer or Asus if you don't mind the higher resolution. Don't worry about the 21.5" spec., they measure the same as a 22".

5ms vs. 2ms? I'd go with the sammy.

I also recommend the asus vh226h if you don't mind a monitor that's more wide than it is tall.
Currently the best deal for the price imo. Keep in mind that a 19x12 or a 16x10 monitor will probably "look" bigger than a 19x10 monitor.

I just bought the 22" 2ms, 8000:1 Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW and it is a great looking monitor. You'll be pleased.:)

After having looked at many options including the ones recommended and the T220 I think I have settled on the Samsung 2253BW. I will likely order sometime middle of this week so if anyone has anything else to say I will keep an eye on the thread.

Time for me to upgrade too. Been using a 17" flat screen CRT ... (it's still running strong) .. don't want to get rid of it except it I need more desk space.

Sadly I am taking more of a side grade so to speak, for the past year and a half I have been using dual 19 inch Viewsonic VA1912wb monitors (Bought months apart and from different vendors). And in that time since last week will have sent them back for repair a total of three times. If it isn't one it is the other having issues, they start getting brighter and brighter and if you turn the brightness down at all you start getting wavy lines on the monitor. I bought these because I wanted quality, something Viewsonic was supposed to be known for.

$150.00 in shipping costs later I am simply going to start all over.

I had the exact same problem with the exact same monitor. I sent it for repairs last week. One day it was working fine then the next day I heard a click and those wavy lines started appearing. If you turn the brightness up those wavy lines disappear but every now and then there's flickering of wavy lines and shadows of colors reflecting. This problem must be wide spread. There's no way this is just coincidence.

I bought Asus 21.5" vh226h in the mean time. Although it's not drastically bigger than the 19" VA1912WB its' much wider. Full 1080p resolution. It kills the viewsonic far as image quality goes and much brighter.

It seems as if I am working on a 6 month rotation with these things, just as one has gotten back a few months later it is time to send one of them in again. I do use my monitors allot, 16 hours a day most days as I work from home but $50.00 to send a monitor in and no advanced RMA option is taking its toll.

I will be getting a quad monitor desk mount and relegating these guys to secondary tasks (reduced usage).
